Terms of Service
Last updated 19 September 2026
The agreement between you and WeddingMate. We have tried to write it so you can actually read it.
Who you are agreeing with
WeddingMate is an independent service built and run in New Zealand. Creating an account means you accept these terms and our Privacy Policy. You need to be 18 or over.
Your account
Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account, including anyone you invite to help plan with you. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has got in.
Your guests' information
When you add guests, you are handing us other people’s personal information to hold on your behalf. You are responsible for having a fair reason to hold it, and for what you do with it inside WeddingMate.
In plain terms: use it to plan your wedding. Do not use WeddingMate to send your guest list anything that is not about your wedding, and do not upload anything about them you would not be comfortable showing them.
Plans and payment
Plans are a one-off charge per wedding, not a subscription — currently $39 for Essentials and $79 for Premium, in New Zealand dollars. If you upgrade from Essentials to Premium you pay only the difference.
Payments are handled by a specialist payment provider. We never see your card number. Prices can change, but a plan you have already bought will not start costing more.
Refunds
Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993. Nothing here limits those rights.
Beyond that: if the product does not do what we said it does, tell us and we will refund you. If you buy a plan and change your mind before you have really used it, tell us within 14 days and we will refund you. If your wedding is called off, write to us — we would rather sort something out than hold onto money for a wedding that is not happening.
Gift registry and payouts
If you use the gift registry, guests pay through Stripe and the money goes to a Stripe account connected to your bank, not to us. Setting this up means opening your own account with Stripe and agreeing to their terms, which govern that account. We do not hold your guests’ money at any point, and we do not take a cut of gifts. Stripe deducts its own processing fees.
Getting that money to the right place is between you and Stripe. We will help if something goes wrong, but we cannot move, refund or recover gift payments ourselves.
Your content
Your photos, your words, your guest list — they stay yours. You give us permission to store and display them so the product can work: showing your site to guests, putting your names in an invitation email, and so on. That permission ends when you delete the content or your wedding.
Only upload photos you have the right to use. If a photographer took them, check what your contract says.
Deleting your wedding
You can delete a wedding on a free plan from your settings. It is immediate and permanent — guest list, RSVPs and photos go with it, and we cannot recover them.
Weddings on a paid plan cannot be deleted from inside the app, because doing so would forfeit what you paid with no way back. Email support@weddingmate.co.nz and we will handle it properly.
What we do not promise
We work hard to keep WeddingMate running, but we cannot promise it will never be unavailable. We are a small operation, and parts of the service depend on others — hosting, email delivery, payments.
Email is the honest weak point. We can send an invitation and tell you it was accepted for delivery; we cannot guarantee it reaches an inbox rather than a spam folder. For anything that really matters, follow up with your guests directly.
Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose. You can export your guest list and RSVPs at any time.
Liability
Where the law allows us to limit our liability, we limit it to the amount you have paid us for that wedding. We are not liable for indirect losses.
If you are using WeddingMate in trade, the Consumer Guarantees Act and the Fair Trading Act are excluded to the extent the law permits. For couples planning their own wedding, they are not — those rights stand.
Ending things
You can stop using WeddingMate whenever you like. We may suspend or close an account that is being used to break the law, to harass people, or to send bulk email unrelated to a wedding. We will tell you why, and give you a chance to get your data out unless doing so would cause harm.
Changes and disputes
If we change these terms materially we will update this page and the date at the top. New Zealand law applies, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction.
If something goes wrong, email us first. Most things are a misunderstanding and get sorted in a day.
