Our story
Built from our own wedding,
for yours.
Wedding planning felt a bit like being handed the controls to a tiny event-management company overnight. Exciting? Absolutely. Organised? Not exactly.
When my husband and I started planning our own wedding here in New Zealand, we did what most couples do. We opened twenty browser tabs, downloaded apps, trialled spreadsheets, tested RSVP websites, and searched endlessly for tools that could actually work together.
What we discovered was surprisingly frustrating.
There were tools for invitations. Tools for seating plans. Tools for guest lists. Tools for registries. But nothing really felt connected, and very little felt designed with New Zealand weddings in mind. Every platform seemed to solve one tiny piece of the puzzle while creating three new ones somewhere else.
Then came the spreadsheet.
Our venue sent us a giant document packed with guest names, seating arrangements, dietary requirements, RSVP tracking, timelines, and notes scattered across endless tabs. We sat staring at it thinking:
“There has got to be an easier way than this.”
That moment became the beginning of WeddingMate.
With a bit of a technical background and a lot of determination, we started building the tool we wished we had from day one. A single place to manage RSVPs, guests, seating plans, invitations, registries, and all the little details that somehow become enormous details during wedding planning.
What started as a personal project quickly became the system we used to run our own wedding. Guests RSVP’d online, dietary requirements stayed organised, seating plans became visual instead of chaotic, and suddenly everything felt calmer and far more manageable.
After seeing how much easier it made our own experience, we knew we wanted to share it with other couples too.
WeddingMate is proudly built in New Zealand, by people who genuinely understand the late-night seating reshuffles, the “plus one” surprises, the family politics around table placements, and the mountain of tiny tasks that appear out of nowhere.
And honestly? We’re only just getting started.
We have a huge list of ideas, features, and improvements we want to continue building. WeddingMate is growing alongside the couples who use it, and we’re incredibly excited for what’s ahead.
Because planning your wedding should feel magical sometimes… not like you’re battling a spreadsheet monster from the depths of Excel.
